What is SecureLive?

How does SecureLive protect my website?

The SecureLive Software works by filtering all the data being sent to your website by a user or bot.  The user is checked for Black List or White List status, and then the data undergoes a very advanced, patented hacker detection script.  During this process, your personal preferences will be applied, allowing you change who is detected as a hacker, and how they are blocked and reported.

How effective is SecureLive at stopping hacks?

SecureLive is the most secure Website Security System available today.  To date, we have blocked over 50 million hack attempts across the globe, and are still going strong.  SecureLive’s success rate when installed on a clean website (no pre-existing hacks), is 100%.  If you are unsure if your website is clean, we offer SecureRX as a diagnostics service to determine this.  If you know you have existing viruses on your website, purchase SecureRescue to have our experts clean up the hacks before installing SecureLive to block future hacks.  You may be surprised to find out how many people are trying to hack your website.  We have had customers begin receiving Incident Reports only minutes after activating SecureLive.

What are the minimum requirements for SecureLive?

SecureLive runs on a variety of platforms, and is continuing to expand the platform base until every website can be protected by our software.   Currently, SecureLive is only offered in the PHP programming language, but will expand to ASP programming very soon.

The current minimum requirements for PHP websites are:

    • PHP version 5 or higher
    • cURL enabled OR fopen with “allow_url_fopen” enabled

The reason we do not support PHP 4 is because there are existing security holes in the PHP 4 language, and as of 2008, development for PHP 4 has completely stopped.  If you are using PHP 4, we recommend making the switch to PHP 5 as soon as you are able to do so. If you are unable to upgrade your PHP 4 at this time, please contact us for a special PHP 4 version.

How will SecureLive affect my website’s performance?

SecureLive’s servers store your account data, global database, and the most advanced parts of our patented technology.  This means that you will need to connect to our servers frequently, and speed becomes a concern for most webmasters.  Most users see an average speed of 0.1 seconds added to their page load time.  Our best speeds are around 0.03 - 0.04 seconds, and the worst being around 0.5 seconds.  This performance can be improved by upgrading your server hardware.  SecureLive’s servers are running very advanced hardware and software in order to provide reliable and fast service.  SecureLive can handle tens of thousands of connections at once, and will grow along with our customer base.

How does your licensing work?

A SecureLive license is for a single domain, and is usually referred to as a “domain license”.  You can purchase as many licenses as you want, but let’s focus on what a single license means.  A single license enables your SecureLive account so that you can use the SecureLive Software to protect the specified domain name.  You can have as many websites on this domain as you wish, in subdomains and directories, but it is important to note that the license will only be active when the user accesses a given website while using the specified domain name.  For example, if you access your website through a domain and an IP address, these are two separate accounts/licenses.  To work around this, we recommend forwarding all traffic from the IP address to the proper domain name (usually through a .htaccess file).

Buying multiple licenses is easy, and they get more affordable each time you purchase one.  You can link all your accounts (licenses) to one or more Server Editions, or keep them as separate accounts by using a CMS version.

How much does SecureLive cost?

The SecureLive Software has a brand new monthly pricing model that makes SecureLive more affordable than ever.  You can secure your first domain for $10 per month, and each domain you add after your first gets even more affordable.  With each domain you add, the monthly price drops by $1 per month.  This means that your 2nd domain would be $9 per month, your 3rd would be $8 per month, and so on until your 10th ends up being $1 per month.  $1 per month is the lowest price available with  our new pricing model.  Once you have 9 domain licenses, each domain you add after is only $1 per month.

Our Server Editions require some installation and setup, so there is a one-time Installation and Maintenance fee of $297 per Server Edition account.  A single Server Edition account covers up to 4 servers.

How do I install SecureLive?

SecureLive Software is very easy to install and activate.  The Server Edition requires a member of the SecureLive Support Team to complete or assist in the installation of the Server Edition, but the CMS platforms are installed like any other extension.

Not all CMS platforms have an install feature.  Some require you to upload the files via FTP, and then the CMS will recognize the new plugin.  If you are using Joomla or WordPress, you can simply use the install feature to upload the proper zip file.  For E107 and Drupal, you must upload the plugin files into the proper directory.

Joomla is the only CMS that does not require the SecureLive Software to be turned on after installing.  This is done automatically in the install routine.  The other CMS platforms will require you to do some action to enable the new plugin.

Once the SecureLive CMS extension is installed and enabled, you will have a new menu item pointing to the SecureLive Administrator.  Go to the SecureLive Administrator and fill in the required information to activate your domain license.  Once activated, your SecureLive Software Service is now enabled and blocking hackers from your website.
